FREDERICKSBURG, VA., Obsidian Solutions Group, a premier provider of targeted intelligence, security, and training solutions to Department of Defense (DoD) and the Intelligence Community (IC), is pleased to announce that Ryan Chen, a respected member from the nuclear community, has joined the company as Director of Modeling and Simulation (M&S) for Obsidian’s Nuclear Enterprise Services (NES) business line.
In this new role, Ryan will be leading the M&S business line of Obsidian, where his focus will include 3D computer animation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), game development, immersive hardware, web development, 3D printing, and 3D scanning technology to prototype data driven experiences for developing scenario-based mission essential tasks, training, and communication. Ryan’s focus complements Obsidian’s growth as it launches its new NES business line. These capabilities significantly expand Obsidian’s M&S capabilities. “This is an incredibly exciting time for Obsidian. Ryan’s experience and expertise, combined with the existing and expanding team he will lead, allows Obsidian to significantly expand our offerings and support the needs of our customers,” Obsidian President, Jim Wiley stated.
Prior to joining Obsidian, Ryan was an animator, analyst, technologist, and developer for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) where he developed science driven visualizations and real-time simulations to help train nuclear emergency responders on tactics and radiological detection methods for both pre and post detonation scenarios. “Ryan’s projects and his technical acumen stood out when we first met him. The M&S technologies he developed are exactly what we wanted to address customer challenges and it is the competencies we needed to create upstream value for Obsidian,” said Obsidian CEO, Tyrone Logan.
Ryan’s creative and technical background has enabled him to develop and lead innovative projects with multidisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and technical artists. With Obsidian’s recent win of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Assessment Exercise, Modeling and Simulation Services $450M IDIQ contract, Ryan’s expertise in M&S, strengthens Obsidian’s Nuclear Enterprise Services business line.
